If not now, then when?

I'm a Poison fan too, Brady.

The Big Lead had a take earlier today basically discounting Browns current starting QB Charlie Frye, and the Browns squad as a whole in their efforts this upcoming weekend to start the season with a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Big Lead predicted a 31-7 Steelers victory over the Browns this weekend. I like 'the Lead, but they are listening too heavily to the mainstream media who is more inclined to be all over the Pittspuke dicks instead of that of the Brownies. I have my own feelings about this game, I have felt all along that the Browns would win for the past few months; but even if they lose this is going to be a close and hard-contested ballgame.

That said, I don't want to see Charlie Frye play all that much. I can't say I wouldn't be more pumped if my boy Brady Quinn was making his first career start this upcoming sunday, to start his journey leading the Browns into a new generation of hope and success. I also truly feel it would give them a better chance to win. In what I've seen of Frye in his 18 or so NFL starts; he lacks the arm strength that forces an NFL defense to defend the entire field. While he has good mobility, he doesn't protect the football. He just doesn't do anything great. I like him as the long-term backup QB option on our team, but I don't like him starting right now. It takes away from a lot of excitement for the fan base. As a Browns fan, you'd be hard pressed to find 1 Browns fan that would tell you they wouldn't like to see what The Mighty Quinn could do against the Steelers on opening day.

The question remains, since we aren't going to see Brady Quinn in the opener, then when? Peter King said on ABC television this past saturday that Brady is going to start after the bye week against the Rams in game #7, which would be on the road in St. Louis. I can tell you right now, that is wrong. While the reasoning King stated was good; the fact the Browns play some awesome defenses before the bye week; the organization isn't going to make Brady's first career start on the road. They shouldn't. Brady is going to make his first career start against the same team that fellow AFC North QB Ben Roethlisberger did. Romeo Crennel will pin Quinn the starter on or before the game October 14th against the Miami Dolphins. This is when I expect to see Brady make his debut, if not earlier.

For Charlie Frye to hang onto his job longer than this, he will have to show Phil Savage, Romeo Crennel, and the entire Cleveland front office that he is indeed a different Quarterback than they have seen in 2+ years. For this one Browns fan, I can't wait for the debut of #10. He'll throw it all around the yard. We could, just maybe see Cleveland with an air-it-out vertical passing attack yet. One can dream.

The Browns have more problems than just the QB. They're in a brutal division. I've been dying to ask a Browns fan this. What in Brady Quinn's past makes you think he's the answer to the Browns problems?? He never beat a top college team in a bowl game. He was 0-4!! He's also innaccurate when under pressure and he's gonna be under pressure a lot.

Thanks for your input Markj, I'm glad you asked me because there is no larger Browns fan than myself.

The reason that Brady is going to turn things around for us is becaues he's going to be a big time QB. He puts big time zoom on the football, serious RPM's. He does things that make QB's big time QB's. He stands tall in the pocket and takes a shot to deliver the ball to a receiver. He is a leader and a quality human being on and off the field. He's a guy who can command a huddle and lead by example.

Did you ever think that the reason he wasn't successful in big time bowl games at ND was because ND wasn't all that great as a team? Where are all of Brady's O-lineman from college? Where are all his receivers? How about his running backs? I'll even give you julius jones. How about players from the defensive side of the ball? Those defenses at ND were awful.

I trust the opinion of Charlie Weiss. If Brady wasn't going to be squat, Weiss has no reason to stake his name in cursive next to the future fortunes of Quinn, it wouldn't make him look wise.
